L’ambition de cet ouvrage est de défendre une didactique des sciences de la vie et de la terre (SVT) qui présente à la fois un ancrage épistémologique profond et un ancrage fort dans les sciences de l’homme et de la société. Ainsi, l’auteur a le souci d’articuler une problématique déjà élaborée (dite « de la problématisation ») inspirée de Bachelard à une théorie psychologique de l’apprentissage dans la perspective de Vygotski et des prolongements que l’on peut donner à sa pensée en ce qui concerne le langage. Aussi s’intéresse-t-il aux pratiques langagières des élèves et du professeur au cours de l’apprentissage. Cette approche lui permet de requestionner des travaux classiques de la didactique des sciences dans une dialectique entre rupture et continuité (entre opinion commune et savoir scientifique, concepts quotidiens et concepts scientifiques) dans une nouvelle perspective de compréhension et d’interprétation des processus d’enseignement-apprentissage à travers le modèle de structuration des contextes. À titre d’exemples, des recherches empiriques choisies dans différents domaines des SVT (adaptation des êtres vivants, classification scientifique du vivant, devenir de la matière organique dans le sol, nutrition, communication nerveuse) et concernant différents niveaux de scolarité viennent soutenir l’enquête didactique de l’auteur. Ce travail – conduit dans une conception collaborative de la recherche en éducation, qui ne cantonne pas les professeurs à l’utilisation de dispositifs établis en dehors d’eux –, s’inscrit dans une nouvelle forme épistémologique dont il contribue à l’élaboration.

Stephen Ramsay's intriguing study of computational text analysis examines how computers can be used as |reading machines| to open up entirely new possibilities for literary critics. Computer-based text analysis has been employed for the past several decades as a way of searching, collating, and indexing texts. Despite this, the digital revolution has not penetrated the core activity of literary studies: interpretive analysis of written texts. Computers can handle vast amounts of data, allowing for the comparison of texts in ways that were previously too overwhelming for individuals, but they may also assist in enhancing the entirely necessary role of subjectivity in critical interpretation. Reading Machines discusses the importance of this new form of text analysis conducted with the assistance of computers. Ramsay suggests that the rigidity of computation can be enlisted in the project of intuition, subjectivity, and play.

La pensée deleuzienne peut être définie comme une pensée de la présentation par opposition à une pensée de la représentation : toute distance, toute profondeur, toute médiation (toute forme) s'y voit négativement indexée, en ce qu'elle brise l'immédiateté du devenir, l'immédiateté du vécu, glissant le souffle froid de la réflexivité entre le monde et le moi. Vivre intensément est donc, dans cette optique, fusionner avec les forces qui peuplent les choses : fusion de l'œil et du tableau, du peintre et du champ de blé, de la main qui caresse et du corps qui frémit, du moi dissous et de l'événement qui advient. Vivre à même le monde, emporté par lui, ne faire qu'un avec ce qu'on aime. Tout le reste n'est que vanité. Tel est donc le souci qui mobilise le vitaliste, et c'est, ici aussi, un souci de présence ou de fusion.
